What Shape? Song Lyrics

What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's a circle. It's a circle.
What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's a triangle. It's a triangle.
What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's a square. It's a square.
What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's a heart. It's a heart.
What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's a star. It's a star.
What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's a rectangle. It's a rectangle.
What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's an oval. It's an oval.
What shape is it? What shape is it?
It's a diamond. It's a diamond.

The What Shape Is It? Song is a fun and simple way to teach shapes. Use the video or free flashcards (see above) to teach the shapes. Next, teach the meaning of the question, " What shape is it? ". Then simply sing the song. One thing you can do with your students is make shapes with your hands as you sing the song. When you sing, " It's a circle." make a circle shape with your hands. Continue throughout the song.

Once the students have learned the question and answer format, ask them to take turns answering and asking the questions. For example, one student can make a shape with their hands, or show a flash card and say, " What shape is it? " and the other student answers.

Games: Students love playing the matching game with shapes. Download the small game cards above, set them out upside down, and students take turns trying to find the match. Make sure they say, "It's a circle." etc. when they pick up the shapes. If they get a match have them say " I got a match!"
